Protective Styling | Crochet Braids

Hello Beauties, I hope everyone is good? So today's post is going to be on the hair I've had for about 3 weeks now.  It's Crochet Braids!!!!

Woow is that your hair? When did your hair grow so long? How did you do it? Can I touch it?  These are some of the questions I have gotten as regards my hair. I am always very excited to share the details.

What is Crochet Braids you may ask? Well, as the name suggests, crochet braids are hair extensions that are literally crocheted or latched into your own hair (braided into cornrows) with a latch hook tool. It is sometimes referred to as Latch Hook Crochet Style or Latch Hook Braids. The Crochet Braids has become very popular in the natural hair community, and people are getting more creative- from the type of hair used, installation techniques and styling.

Benefits of Crochet Braids:

  • It looks unbelievably realistic.  Like, " I've grown my hair since I was a baby" realistic.
  • The application process is alot quicker than your usual braids, twist or even sew-in.
  • There is minimal stress on your scalp because all you are doing is looping on synthetic hair onto your already braided hair- no pressure or pulling required.
I used Noble Kinky Hair to do my crochet braids. As a matter of fact , I used the kinky hair to do a twist sometime in January. Click HERE to see it.  When I loosened the twist, I just kept the hair for future use.

Maintaining my Crochet Braids:
  • I apply moisturizer to the hair and this makes it very soft and easier to brush.
  • Sometimes, not always, If I remember , I would spray a mixture of water and olive oil from my spray bottle. YES, I treat it like my own hair. This makes the hair have a bit of shine , and not look dull.
  • At night, I part the hair into 2 or 4 and braid it out, cover with my satin bonnet and go to bed. Next morning , I take down the braids, brush a little and style as I want.

I used edge control to lay down my edges and blended it into the crochet braids.

Below, I just tried out a side hawk for a different look.

So that's it dolls, my very first crochet braids, and I totally love it. I would definitely re-visit this style in the near future. Hopefully, I would try out different hair extensions and probably different colors too.

I hope you all enjoyed this post, so until my next post do stay beautiful.

I love it. Was actually thinking it was crotcheted on a wig cap. Love the way you styled it and it looks so natural. Some people curl with rollers and hot water to give it a different look also.

And that's what I am talking about. Some people actually do it on a wig cap and wear it as a wig. (different installation technique) and yes to give it a different look people curl it.

Yaaaay! Its really nice. I did it for my sister using expression hair and it was lovely. People thought it was a wig. Thumbs up. Wish I could do it on myself

Yes o, expression would also be good for crochet, and you know if you can do it on someone you can try it on yourself... practice it and see how it goes.
